\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe \n\n48th edition of the CITY OF BARCELONA INTERNATIONAL TROPHY\n<\/strong>\n, a fencing world cup event, will be held on February 7th, 8th and 9th, 2025, in the women’s \u00e9p\u00e9e category, classified by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Escrime as category “A”.\n

\nThe Catalan Fencing Federation and the Real Federaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola, in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council, the Consell Catal\u00e0 de l’Esport, the Uni\u00f3 de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya and the Institut Nacional d’Educaci\u00f3 F\u00edsica de Catalunya, organize this prestigious competition.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe first edition of the “Ciutat de Barcelona” was held on November 3th, 1957 at the Barcino Tennis Club. This tournament was then known as the \u201cCopa Ciudad de Barcelona\u201d (Barcelona City Cup), and was contested for men’s epee, and to win this trophy you had to win it twice in a row or three times alternately. The first edition was won by the Swiss fencer Umberto Menegalli, but the first fencing artist to win this cup was the Frenchman Gabriel Lassalle, winner of the third and fourth editions (in 1959 and 1961 respectively).\n
\n
\nAfter 20 years, the Catalan Fencing Federation decided to recover this trophy, and in 1981 the fifth edition was held, although it was contested for foil and only at a national level. In 1982 this tournament regained its international character and in 1986 it returned completely to its origins, being contested for men’s epee. In the following editions, the International City of Barcelona Trophy has been gaining a high participation rate of elite fencers, which allowed it to achieve in 1989, in its fourteenth edition, the qualification of World Cup by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Escrime, making this competition one of the most prestigious in the world.\n
\n
\nSince 2005, the \u201cCiutat de Barcelona\u201d has been contested for women’s epee and in 2019, in its forty-third edition, the record of participation in this competition was established, with 280 fencers of 55 different nationalities.\n
\n
\nYear after year, the best fencers in the world meet at the \u201cCiutat de Barcelona\u201d, as demonstrated by the fact that, during the last editions, Olympic Champions, World Champions and winners of the World Cup of the last two decades have participated. In this edition, the presence of the best specialists in the world in the female epee modality is also expected.
