On the weekend of March 29-30, the Sant Jordi International Children’s Fencing Trophy was held at the La Guinardera pavilion, the third consecutive event held in Sant Cugat. More than 350 fencers from seven countries participated. The competition featured three weapons (foil, épée, and saber) in both the men’s and women’s categories. The competition was highly regarded by all participants, as the facility was well-suited to fencing competitions thanks to the pavilion’s excellent features and the excellent work of the Sant Cugat Fencing Club volunteers, who worked hard in the preparation, set-up, and take-down of the competition. In the men’s foil event, the winner was Leonardo Scarpa, an Italian from the Mestre club. In the women’s foil event, the winner was Julia Honciu, a Spanish-Romanian from the SAV club in Valencia. In the men’s sabre event, Eduardo Pellegatta, an Italian from the Cid Campeador club in Burgos, took the win. In the women’s sabre category, the winner was Violeta Martí, from the SAMA club in Madrid. In the men’s épée category, the winner was Alvaro García, also from SAMA in Madrid. In the women’s épée category, Inés Cristiá, from the Lázaro Cárdenas club in Madrid, won. The Sant Cugat club presented fifteen male and female participants, with three of the girls entering the 16 direct elimination tableau for the first time (Alex Roselló, Abril Reverte, and Marta Piccini). The awards ceremony was held by the Councilor for Sports and Culture, Núria Escamilla, the President of the Catalan Fencing Federation, Cristina Sastre, the President of the Valldoreix EMD, Juanjo Cortés, and the President of the Sant Cugat Fencing Club, Massimo Chicca.
